Brazilian defender Rafael da Silva was an Istanbul Basaksehir player for just one season and during his time at the club, he didn't win any major trophy. As a matter of fact, Rafael da Silva joined Istanbul Basaksehir shortly after the club won the Turkish Super League title for the first time in their history.
Rafael da Silva was heavily involved as the Turkish club played Champions League group stage football for the first time last season. Istanbul Basaksehir was in the same group as the likes of German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, Premier League team Manchester United and French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
Rafael and Istanbul Basaksehir didn't make it past their Champions League group stage but the player was able to feature against Manchester United who's close to his heart. Rafael da Silva was with the Manchester United first team squad for seven years and he had the opportunity to feature against the Red Devils in the Champions League after Istanbul Basaksehir qualified by winning the league in the Turkish top flight. Rafael was in the starting line-up for the two games against the Red Devils. The Brazilian right-back played the whole match for hosts Istanbul Basaksehir in the first game which ended in a shock 2-1 win over Manchester United before featuring for the whole 90 minutes during the second game at the Theatre of Dreams which ended in an emphatic 4-1 victory in the favour of home team Manchester United.
Rafael left French team Lyon at the end of his contract and he ended up signing for Istanbul Basaksehir on a free transfer in September 2020. He penned a two-year deal with the option of a third year but the defender spent just one season before being released by mutual consent. He recently signed for Botafogo in his native Brazil.
