Former Chelsea star Gianfranco Zola believes Antonio Conte should secure the signature of Romelu Lukaku for Inter Milan this summer. Conte has already made meaningful business since being appointed as the Inter boss but he is still understood to be keen on pursuing the signature of Lukaku from Manchester United.

Speaking to FC Inter News, Zola said that he is aware of the club’s pursuit of Lukaku from United and believes the marksman can have a great impact coming from the Premier League, where the players are more physically and athletically built, he told: “In addition to the purchases already made, I read that Lukaku could also arrive [at Inter Milan.

“He would certainly be a player of great impact, he has the right characteristics to play under Conte and he is a striker who, coming from the Premier League, could find so many advantages in Italy. At the physical and athletic level, the Premier League prepares you really well right now and I am sure he can have a big impact in the Italian championship.”

Conte has been holding a keen interest in signing Lukaku since his time at former club Chelsea. Back then, the Blues were in advanced negotiations for the marksman but the deal was hijacked at the 11th hour with the Belgian preferring a reunion with manager Jose Mourinho at United. At present, the Nerazzurri remain reluctant to match the Red Devils’ £75m price tag for the striker but talks are still understood to be ongoing between the sides.

Meanwhile, Lukaku has yet to make his pre-season bow with United this summer and reports suggest that club are prepared to sideline him until they can find a resolution over his future. United have had the perfect pre-season run with three successive wins and they have the opportunity to continue the streak when they face Tottenham Hotspur in Shanghai, China.
