DA SILVA: UNITED CAN KNOCK OUT ATLETICO MADRID
With Manchester United securing a 1-1 draw against Spanish La Liga giants and current champions Atletico Madrid iin the first leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout clash on Wednesday night, it has relatively become somewhat easier for them to go ahead of their rivals into the next round. Heading into the tie, United were seen by a lot of people as the underdogs because of the kind of unstable fork that they have been in the last couple of weeks. However, while they were mostly poor and unimpressive for most parts of the game, they were able to snatch a draw through an Anthony Elanga strike in the second half to set the tie on a stalemate before the second leg.
Despite the pressure on the Red Devils to March on to the next round of the tournament , their former player, Rafael da Silva, believes that his former club will head into the next round at the expense of their Spanish rivals. Da Silva, when asked to give an assessment of the current Manchester United team, stated that he knows what everyone already thinks of the squad, which is their lack of rhythm in playing together for large parts of games. However, he stated that he would rather believe that regardless of whatever happens, the Red Devils will be marching on to the next round of the competition.
United forward Cristiano Ronaldo had not lost a knockout game against Atletico Madrid for years before the clash and the streak looked like it was going to come to an end before Anthony Elanga came to their rescue. According to da Silva, all United now have to do is to remain focused and prepare better for the second leg than they did for the first and qualification would be theirs.
